1 ) How do you feel right now facing another monstrous show with tonight scheduled ORIGIN, DYING FETUS, BENEATH THE MASSACRE and MAN MUST DIE ….
Yes, we are extremely excited. This tour has been really fun so far, you know, it`s only three days in. All the bands are gearing along really great. I mean, this is a great metal package and we`re incredibly happy to be in Europe for the first time.
2) So after touring the states this is your first time to Europe in the sign of the well known trash and burn Tour. How do you like Europe and especially, what are your impressions of Germany so far
Oh, Europe has been really awesome so far, I mean, there have been only three shows obviously, but It`s a great pleasure to play over here and to meet the German metalfans and and to spend time at the gigs. It`s so much fun to meet all the people. But we also love to walk around, cause we do a lot of sightseeing. There is so much history in Europe, it`s just great to explore and see shit. And to play a show at the end of a night, it`s just like the icing on a cake, you know. Anyway, to play in front of true metalfans, it`s realy great!
3) How was the response of the german metal-scene to Revocation, as we could call you sth. like a newcomer in comparison to bands like DYING FETUS or CANNIBAL CORPSE, which are running business for more or less 20 years. And which are really famous in Europe?
The reactions have been really positive so far. We are playing the states for almost ten years or so and as this is our first time to Europe we have to prove ourselves, you know, there are a lot of metalfans over here, and it`s not like people going completely insane this year, they`re often kind of, you know, they are sitting back and watching us and taking it all in, as it is in anyway the first time they see us over here in Hamburg, but I think at the end of the night the reactions are really positive and we can win a lot of them for REVOCATION after the set.
4) How have the shows in Essen and Karlsruhe been. Did you meet people, which showed up at these shows especially for you guys, like I do ? Or did or do people just think about another support act for the headlining bands ?
It`s hard to say, I feel like, definitely the majority of people were there for bands like BENEATH THE MASSACRE ORIGIN, MAN MUST DIE, ORIGIN, DYING FETUS, because those are the bands that have toured here before and they have bigger more well known names in the underground. Sometimes people even haven`t heard about us over here. They often come to us and ask “What do you guys call again ?” It`s cool, if people didn`t know us, now they do know us ! It`s a really cool feeling to convert new fans and make new fans over here in Germany…
5) What are your favorite Bands from Germany ?
Yes, It`s easy. DESTRUCTION, KREATOR, SODOM !
6) How do you guys got into metal ? what have been the first bands you were listening to ?
With me it`s maybe the same like for a lot of guys: METALLICA, cause they are a very special worldwide phenomenon. Than I graduated to PANTERA, which is a worldwide phenomenon as well, and from PANTERA, that`s where I really started to get into the different subgenres like Trash- and Death Metal. And as you know, it`s like this, you always see a lot of other guys wearing all these different band shirts at the shows. You always think, what`s this kind of band and then you check it out. You know, it`s like a snowball effect.
7) After self releasing an EP called Summon the Spawn (2006) and your debut-full-length Empire Of The Obscene (2008) You finally teamed up with Relapse Records to release Existence Is Futile. How do you feel about being part of the huge Relapse family ? As Relapse brought up a lot of amazing bands like Exit 13, ANAL CUNT, NASUM, EXHUMED, SUFFOCATION or MASTODON just to name a few?
It`s a real honor to be on Relapse Records. This label creates such big metal bands with so much influence on the scene. That`s really fantastic. But what I really like about Relapse is the point that it`s so diverse. There are big bands in Grindcore, big bands in Death Metal and whatever. Even bands that do not fit into any category like Mastodon or something like that, you know. The roster is so different. It`s not just specialising in just one style, like for example a label which is just focussing on Metalcore or something. It`s so diverse and to sign to a label that created such a long list of legendary bands, that`s a real honor.
Your label and the metal-press categorizes your style as a technical mix made out of trash- and death metal? Can you cope with this or what`s your very personal point of view of the Revocation Style ?
We are definitely a Death-Trash band or a Trash-Death band however you wanna look at it. But there are so many different aspects to our sound. There isn`t just one band we`re influenced by. It`s not just grindcore or trash or traditional heavy metal. I`m even influenced by jazz artists like Pat Martino for example,…from the guitar aspect stuff there are so many aspects from outside of metal, .. Jazz, Hard Rock, I really loved GUNS N`ROSES and Slash who inspired me to play guitar.
9) What`s your opinion: Why does the Revocation-style sound so fresh and unique (in comparison to a large range of bands which all nearly sound the same) What do you think about that ?
We are big fans in music and we don`t want to copy a band. We first of all play the music we like, maybe it`s just the mix out of all the influences from jazz to hardcore, from Death to grind and all that suff we`ve been listening to. I also love hardcore, especially dirty hardcore and its energy at the shows. Probably all these points come together and mark the REVOCATION Style.
9) What Are the topics of your lyrics?
The lyrics are very various, too, as we try to match the lyrics to the song.
10) You first founded as CRYPTIC WARNING with the same line up. Why you renamed as REVOCATION?
WE started to play in highschool as CRYPTIC WARNING when we were quite young. So we still had to learn a lot of stuff. And then we started to write more and more and so we became more and more professional on our instruments. And as a result of that, our songwriting grew a lot. So we decided to restart in a new, fresh and more professional way . We didnt`want to be in everybodys` mind as CRYPTIC WARNING anymore. It has been something like a relaunch…
11) What`s to expect next from REVOCATION. Will there be more touring ? Are there any releases planed for 2010, maybe another full-length via RELAPSE?
Yes, we`ll tour our asses off ! And we`re writing new material. And we`re looking forward to release our music, putting out another record and hopefully keep on expanding the bandname.
12) And to finish this interview: Do you guys like beer and what are your favourite colors and animals ?
Yes, we like beer and Jäger, haha. Favourite colour ? Mmh,.. I lke ‘em All: Blue, green, red, … they`re awesome. Favourite animal: The Cows… we like to eat ‘em! They taste delicious, hahaha
